First off, there is no shame in wanting more out of musicians and music producers alike. If someone came to me tomorrow and asked me to sing some lines into a recording device, with the promise of making a great deal of money- I would say, 'tell me more.' But if someone asked me to write, produce, record every instrument, sing and market all my own material- I would curl up into a fetal position and cry.
Secondly, you are the real deal. You are capable of doing just about anything musically, but even more importantly you are aware of what gives music integrity. You know that way past subjectivity, there is artistry and real potential for deep appreciation for something worth putting effort into.
There are too many musical 'flavors of the month' and for every one out there, there is a legitimate reason why they climbed so high, so fast to achieve the success they were granted. But very few of them, deliberate or accident, will ever understand or even be able to explain why they are so great.
I am confident that you, Joe, will be great in your family's eyes, your community's eyes and my eyes long after any of those listed in the pic above.
So, be a curmudgeon if it means that you remain aware of what it is that keeps us interested and what does not waste the most precious commodity we have- time.

Much respect to you,

Jesus, Brad! I'm saving this one for when I'm full of self-pity.
I do get it, but I guess, even after all these years, it's tough to accept that the biz side beats on the wee creative side of the music world.
Thanks man - so appreciated. j
