A Curmudgeonly Perspective

...maybe it's just me (probably is), but it seems that people use the occasion of a celebrity's death to deify them, regardless of what they've done in their career. I'm very sad for Whitney Houston's family and friends, as I would be for anyone, but to say these grandiose things about her musical contribution is ridiculous. Did she write any songs? Did she contribute anything path-making to art? Seems to me she was just another big voice singing big, over-the-top ballads for the masses.

(OK, I know I sound curmudgeonly, but I actually was this cynical at age 16 about music...!)
