Lost, Deep In the Groove

As a musician, as a human, there is nothing at all like absorbing your whole self inside the music. While performing, to achieve that highest of highs is really unsurpassable in life.

People often give me shit when I go off into another world while playing with the Charmers - we launch into these long jams to end tunes that transport me to a different planet - a different state of consciousness - where it's painful to return from, while simultaneously offering a feeling of pure nirvana, or having reached Shangri-La. I guess my facial gestations get pretty amusing. Of course, I have no idea I'm doing that - I'm floating, trying to get to a place of meditation, of pure being, inside the music.

Check this clip out, with thanks to my friend Yosi. This is Avishai Cohen, an amazing Israeli jazz bassist/multi-instrumentalist. This jam is classic, and watching Avishai and buddies get so deep into the music is worth the distracting nature of music video. Soak it up.
