When My Life Is Done

Stoked once again to announce the release of my new video for the first single from my second album, SO WIRED, When My Life Is Done.

I shot this in VideoSongs format - a technique popularized (and maybe started) by indie heroes Pomplamoose, and more specifically, the male half of that group, Jack Conte. If you haven't checked out Jack's solo work and Pomplamoose's catalog, do so immediately! I blogged about him in my 5 New Albums That Blow Me Away list.

VideoSongs are a way of documenting the recording of a song - sharing an otherwise personal, intense experience with others. It was fun to do, but I have to say that my calling seems to clearly be on the musical, rather than visual, side of things.

Gracias to Canyon Russell for helping me out with the camera.

Build a Fire Video

So stoked to share my new music vid for the single and title track from my 2009 debut solo album, BUILD A FIRE. I wrote the song as a message for my daughter (you can see a picture flash quickly at the end of me holding her after her birth in '06) - life lessons from Daddy to Ari.

I had the idea to satirize the convention of American parenting, so I dug up some PSAs from the 50's and 60's, spliced 'em up and tried to tell a story with them. There's some hilarious stuff if you watch closely - it's so stunning what people thought (think?) they should teach their kids.

Of course, YouTube Likes and Comments always appreciated! I also added still-frame music vids for the rest of my BUILD A FIRE tracks. Subscribe here. Have at it.

The new aesthetic

Video... I was raised in a family video store, I'm a movie freak, and it's still taken me this long to realize (or for my friend Canyon to pound the idea into me) that in this new media world I need to promote my music using this medium. It's hard, man!

So glad Canyon pushed me on this one. I hit the drawing board and came up with a retro-y video of the title track to BUILD A FIRE and came out so stoked. I'll launch it in anticipation of the release of my new album, for which I need a new video too... Any ideas out there?

I'll post the launch of the BUILD A FIRE video very soon. Yessah!!

Have I freaked about Band of Horses yet? Current huge obsession.
